Full History of Handwriting Analysis

Sumerian merchants  in the southernmost region of ancient Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq and Kuwait) – which is considered the cradle of civilization – were the first to codify their transactions in a recognizable script in 3000 BC.

The earliest understanding of an individual’s character from their handwriting goes back to 500 BC when Confucius warned…

“Beware of a man whose writing sways like a reed in the wind”…

The USA is far behind in its acceptance of this science because of ONE business mistake someone made in Europe centuries ago!

Full History of Handwriting

Borrowing aspects of the Etruscan alphabet, the ancient Romans were among the first to develop a written script for transactions and correspondence.

By the 5th century A.D. it included early versions of lowercase letters and sometimes flowed like modern cursive.

After the Roman Empire fell, penmanship became a specialized discipline that primarily blossomed in monastic settings, specifically the medieval scriptoria that churned out Christian and classical texts across Europe.

Studies & Research in Handwriting Analysis

Research in handwriting goes back to the BC’s in time. However without having the internet around under centuries later, they are hard to find. Even when we are lucky enough to find some of those records, they are definitely not written in English since this science did not start anywhere close to the USA.

Therefore, I have decided to share some of the more modern research from the 1970’s through today but more and more research is being done on a frequent basis.
